The Hundred Days of the Batutsi Genocide

During the Batutsi genocide in 1994, killers eat their victims’ organs.

Last week a witness has testified in front of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (Arusha) that they made brochettes of human hearts and liver during the genocide in Cyangugu Prefecture, Rwanda. The testimony was about the activities of Bagambiki and Imanishimwe during the genocide that took place in Cyangugu on 13, 14 and 22 April 1994.

The witness said: “we were killing people at the roadblock. The persons in question were brought there by the authorities, Emmanuel Bagambiki the prefect and Samuel Imananishimwe the commander of Karambo camp. On 13 April 1994, Bagambiki and Imanishimwe brought 15 people to the roadblock to be killed. Then Imanishimwe and Bagambiki brought 10 people on the 14th of April and another 10 on the 22 April .

“We hacked them, we attacked them with sharp weapons because we were prohibited from using bullets uselessly, Imanishimwe and Bagambiki didn’t leave until we killed all the people they brought. On 14 April, he wanted to rape a woman who was among the 10 people they had brought but the woman refused. When she left the house near the roadblock,

Imanishimwe followed her out and shot her once in her genitals using his pistol”.
“After the killing, Imanishimwe “started a ritual of eating human flesh and gave us an example. He ate the heart and liver of one of the victims. The heart and liver were eaten after being roasted on brochettes”.
