King Yuhi V Musiga’s body has never been cited since being assassinated on January 13 1931 in Kilembwe, Zaire, then under the Belgian colony.
The Rwandan King was killed in secret and his body was never seen again. From then on the Belgian government has not been questioned to clarify about his death and burial.
Yuhi V Musinga came to power in 1896 and collaborated with the German government to strengthen his own kingship.
In 1931 he was deposed by the Belgian administration because of his inability to work with subordinate chiefs and his refusal to be baptized a Roman Catholic.
Rwanda politicians in diaspora lament that Belgium is responsible for his death and has the secret about what circumstances surrounded his fatal end in Zaire now DR.Congo.
“The Rwandan government should request Belgium to reveal where the king’s body is so that he can be rested in respect in Mwima and Mushirarungu aside of his sons in Nyanza,” a politician in Belgium said on the sudden death of King Yuhi V Musinga’s heir King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa that died in the United States where he fled when he was only 24 years in 1961.
King Yuhi and all his two sons, King Rudahigwa III and King Kigeli are the only three kings to have died in exile and on a travel outside Rwanda.
King Rudahigwa III was electrocuted on 25 July 1959 aged 48 years in Burundi by Belgian colonialists when he refused to sign an agreement that could have completely sold Rwanda to the colony.
Mutara III Rudahigwa was from 1931 to 1959. But for him he accepted to be baptized a Roman Catholic name, Charles Léon Pierre, which gave loyalty the church in Rwanda during his reign.
In 1919 he began his education at the Colonial School for Chiefs’ Sons in Nyanza, subsequently becoming his father’s secretary in 1924. In January 1929 he was appointed a chief and administered a province.
The diaspora like other Rwandans would be, contented, when the King Yuhi V Musinga is buried in Nyanza.
King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa’s body is expected to be buried in the Nyanza King’s memorial, the dates for burial are yet to be disclosed.
