The President of the National electoral Commission (NEC) has disclosed that Rwandans have generously contributed to the forth coming elections and hence a move towards fair elections, RNA has learnt.
Chrysologue Karangwa, the President of NEC, said that, Rwandans were called upon to play an active role in the elections by giving logistic and financial support after donors failed to meet their pledges.
Karangwa said that, all Provinces have made their contributions citing; Butare Province that
has contributed Rfw 115m, Umutara Province Rfw 59m and Cyangugu Province with over
Rfw 30m.
Innocent Ntabana, the Prefect of Umutara Province, said during the fundraising that, the contribution is a commitment to the stability and development of their nation. “Your contribution shows your desire to promote good governance and democracy in Rwanda.”
The President of the NEC, underlined that, the commission is committed to carry out fair and free elections.
Note that; during the referendum, companies, enterprises, associations and individuals made their possible contributions to enable elections go on smoothly, after donors withdrew their pledged support at the last minute.
Contributions by individuals include; clothes that covered private places for voters, fuel and vehicles among others. Companies pledged their support ranging from communication to transportation. The same story is likely to repeat during Presidential and Parliamentary elections as donors have shown no interest to fund the exercise.
Meanwhile, four candidates are racing for Presidency and campaigns will kick off on 1st next Month and will run up to 24th August.
